It is not as easy as submitting required documents a click away. It is mandatory for you to know who to contact, who to ask help, and who to send the final revisions to. Furthermore, all the documents required by customs are not to be submitted in one go. You have to follow them up multiple times. More often than not, additional documents, other than stated, are required before you send or receive your cargo.

1. Get in contact with shipper / consignee (depending if you are exporting or importing)
2. Have permit to send the cargo

4. Have required documents ready before cargo ready date; including lab results, fumigation, phytosanitary, quarantine, etc if necessary
5. Get the best quote you can find; meaning you have to compare rates from tens of shipping lines or airlines
6. Book space from chosen shipping line / airline
7. Submit necessary documents to customs (different for every commodity)
8. Submit customs manifest
9. Prepare if your cargo will be in transit
10. Have your consignee holding the permit to receive the cargo
11. Have an agent overseas to handle your shipment
12. Settling the payments without unnecessary problems

And you have to do all the above without mistake and tardiness, or you will get penalised (it gets really expensive).
